John 3

Supplementary Note: John 3:16–21 — God’s Provision, Belief, and Unbelief

God initiates salvation: He loves and gives His Son. The passage then repeatedly identifies belief and unbelief as the dividing response. The believer is not condemned; the unbeliever is condemned because he has not believed. People love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil. This strongly describes sinfulness and unwillingness, but unwillingness should not automatically be converted into constitutional inability. The passage does not say the unbeliever cannot believe until first regenerated.
