Supplementary Note: Acts 13:42–52 — Context of Acts 13:48

The narrative records contrasting responses. Some want to hear more; opponents reject the word and judge themselves unworthy of eternal life; Gentiles rejoice and glorify the word. Then Luke says that as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. The context contains divine purpose, proclamation, rejection, responsibility, joy, and belief. Interpretation of verse 48 should preserve all of them.

Acts 13:48 — Appointed to Eternal Life

This is a strong election proof text because appointment is connected with belief. Tassō can carry the idea of appointing, arranging, ordering, or placing. The verse presents the believing Gentiles within God’s saving purpose. It does not state when the appointment occurred, whether it describes an eternal individual decree before creation, or whether the appointment irresistibly caused faith. Those conclusions require additional argument.
