Bible Verse

Exodus 6:2–8
God also told Moses, “I am the LORD. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by My name the LORD I did not make Myself known to them. I also established My covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land where they lived as foreigners. Furthermore, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered My covenant. Therefore tell the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians and deliver you from their bondage. I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as My own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you into the land that I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD!’”

Reflection

Abraham died, but the God who made promises to Abraham did not. Generations changed, circumstances changed, and Israel eventually found itself suffering in Egypt, yet God's purposes continued.

We sometimes speak as though the great men and women of Scripture had access to a God who is somehow unavailable to ordinary believers today. We admire their faith while quietly assuming that God's strength was reserved for them. But the power was never theirs to begin with. Their strength was found in the God whom they trusted.

We do not need to become Abraham, Moses, Peter, or Paul. God has not called us to live their lives. He has called us to faithfulness in ours. The same Lord who equipped His servants for the work He gave them is able to equip us for the work He gives us.

People pass away. Ministries end. Generations come and go. But God's faithfulness does not die with His servants. Our confidence should never rest in the greatness of those who came before us, but in the greatness of the God they served.

Practical Application

  • Trust God with one uncertainty today instead of trying to control an outcome He has not placed in your hands.
  • Write down one promise God has actually made in Scripture and deliberately rest your thinking upon it today.
  • Take the next clear step of obedience even if you cannot yet see where the entire road will lead.
  • When anxiety rises, turn it into a specific prayer of trust rather than repeatedly rehearsing the fear.
  • Encourage someone else today by reminding them of a concrete example of God’s faithfulness.

Prayer

Father, strengthen my faith to trust what You have revealed, obey what You have made clear, and leave what I cannot control in Your faithful hands. Amen.
