Words are among the greatest gifts God has given us. Through words we encourage, teach, comfort, correct, and share the gospel. Yet the same tongue can also wound deeply, spreading discouragement, criticism, and division.

Paul challenges believers to speak in a way that builds others up. This means our conversations should be marked by kindness, wisdom, honesty, and grace. Before speaking, we should ask whether our words will strengthen the hearer or simply satisfy our own emotions.

In today’s world, careless speech has become commonplace. Social media, news headlines, and public conversations often encourage harsh criticism and quick reactions. As followers of Christ, however, we are called to reflect a different spirit. Our speech should reveal the transforming work of the Holy Spirit within us.

Encouraging words may seem small, yet God often uses them in powerful ways. A simple expression of appreciation, a thoughtful conversation, or a timely reminder of God’s promises can strengthen someone who is quietly carrying heavy burdens.

May our words consistently point others toward Christ, reflecting the grace we ourselves have received.
