Acts 7:51 — Resisting the Holy Spirit
Stephen accuses his hearers of resisting the Holy Spirit as their fathers did. This does not settle every question concerning grace or regeneration, but it establishes that Scripture can describe resistance to God’s gracious and revelatory activity. Claims about irresistible
grace must therefore distinguish the particular operation of the Spirit being discussed rather than assuming all divine action upon sinners is irresistible.
